The Worst Advice We’ve Ever Heard About SEO

The internet is stuffed with information about just about anything you are remotely interested in! Some of it is bogus, some of it is factual. When it comes to SEO, everyone seems to have their own opinion. We went ahead and weeded out the worst advice we came across regarding SEO, all for you!

Neglecting the Locals

A business that is serving customers within a certain region, must not forget about their community! Your home expanse is where majority of your customers are coming from. Make sure you utilize area-specific keywords when optimizing your SEO for your target market.

Overlooking Social Media

Nope, nope, nope! Social media, use it! By now there are plenty of articles as well as experts in social media that can give you tips on how to get more involved on your social media pages. It can take time, but it is well worth it! There are also plenty of tools out there to automate your posts if you don’t have time every day! However, if you do automate your posts don’t forget to log on and interact with people who are in your industry!

Three-Toed-Sloth Speed

The average attention span online is 8 seconds. If your website is taking longer than that, your traffic will dramatically decrease. There are many websites out there that are loading instantaneously, if your site is not a part of this group then your traffic will find a website that is!

Purchasing Links

May be easy to just throw money at a problem to fix it, but buying links is not a good practice to get into. Google has continuously recommended against this advice. Buying links will not get you to the top of the competitive market so it is best to avoid all together.

Using Meta Keywords Tag

Yes, really! Using meta keywords are a faux pas! Google, Bing, and Yahoo all have said they do not or very rarely use meta keywords for SEO ranking factors. No need to spend any more time on meta tags! Whew!
